Tigers rally to beat Mariners, stay alive in MLB playoffs

Riley Greene and Javier Baez both homered in a four-run sixth inning as the Detroit Tigers rallied to beat the Seattle Mariners 9-3 to knot their Major League Baseball playoff series at two games apiece on Wednesday.

Gleyber Torres added a home run in the seventh inning for the Tigers, who fended off elimination in the best-of-five American League division series, which will head back to Seattle for game five on Friday.

"We believe," Greene said. "We're never out of the game no matter what and we always believe in ourselves."

The Tigers erased a 3-0 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the fifth -- capped by a game-tying single from Baez.

Greene led off the sixth with a towering solo homer to right center field, his first career postseason home run, giving the Tigers their first lead of the game.

Spencer Torkelson smacked a double and scored on a single by Zach McKinstry before Baez lofted a two-run homer that put the Tigers up 7-3.

The winner of the series will face either the New York Yankees or Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Championship Series for a place in the World Series.

The Blue Jays will try to close out the Yankees in New York later Wednesday, one day after the Yankees fended off elimination with a victory that pulled them within 2-1 in the best-of-five series.

The reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers and the Milwaukee Brewers were vying to complete National League series sweeps.

The Brewers took a 2-0 series lead over the Cubs into their game three at Wrigley Field in Chicago, while the Dodgers hosted the Phillies after taking the first two games of their series in Philadelphia.
