Alfred out of world 200m with hamstring strain

Saint Lucian sprinter Julien Alfred, who won bronze in the women's world 100m, will not race in the 200m in Tokyo because of a hamstring strain, her country's federation said.

"The decision was made to prioritise Julien's health and long-term career," the Saint Lucia Athletics Association said in a statement.

"While we know this news brings disappointment, we are proud of her incredible performances to date at these championships and remain inspired by her resilience and excellence."

Alfred finished third in Sunday's 100m won by American Melissa Jefferson-Wooden in 10.61sec.

She has competed in three 200m races this season, the latest coming in the London Diamond League when she won in 21.71sec, putting her ninth on the all-time list.
